About atta ladoo
Atta refers to whole wheat flour, and ladoo refers to sweet balls made from any ingredient into a round shape. These wheat sweet balls are made by slow-roasting the flour in ghee, which brings out a deep aroma and gives the ladoo a classic flavour.
The atta ladoo is a popular sweet snack during winter and monsoon days that can be enjoyed throughout the month. My mother prepares them every year, and the whole family enjoys them together. Also, atta panjiri, atta halwa, or roti churma are good additions to your sweet cravings and taste different.
The wheat ladoo has many variations; you can add dry fruits, dates, gond, gram flour, and sesame seeds. But if you want a traditional taste of atta ladoo, then only three ingredients are enough: wheat flour, ghee, and sugar; that’s all what you need.
They are very simple and super quick to make compared to other ladoos, and make a perfect sweet for your next festival, family gatherings, or whenever you want something nostalgic and homemade.
Other ladoo recipes you can try:
Ingredients
- Wheat Flour (Atta)- The main ingredient that creates a base of ladoo; use fresh, good-quality atta for the best flavour.
- Ghee- This helps to roast the flour to thier best texture.
- Sugar- I use jaggery to sweeten the atta ladoo; instead, you can use powdered sugar.
- Almonds- Chopped almonds add a crunch.
- Dry Coconut- Adding some grated coconut for creaminess.
- Chironji- It adds a nutty, mild flavour.
How to make a traditional atta ladoo
1. Heat ghee in a deep kadai over medium heat.

2. Now add 1 cup of whole wheat flour.

3. Begin roasting on the same heat until it turns a golden color.

4. It took me 7 to 8 minutes to get the golden color; also, when it gets properly roasted, your kitchen fills with the aromatic smell of flour.

5. Now add 1 tbsp grated dry coconut, 1 tbsp almonds, and 1 tbsp chironji to that.

6. Mix them well and leave it for a few minutes to cool slightly.

7. When it cools, add 1/2 cup jaggery to it.

8. Now mix the jaggery properly with the flour, and the mixture is ready.

9. Take a small portion of the mixture and shape ladoos one by one. If the mixture isn’t binding, add some ghee, mix, and bind again.

Serve these atta ladoos at room temperature with a cup of hot chai, coffee, or turmeric milk in winter. Garnish the ladoos with a little chopped almonds, pistachios, and cashews before serving. They are also enjoyed on Holi, Diwali, Teej, and other festivals.
Store them in an airtight container at room temperature and enjoy for a month.

Pro Tips
- Roast the atta patiently on low to medium heat until it reaches a golden color. Don’t try to roast on high heat as it turns brown quickly.
- Keep stirring continuously while roasting the flour to prevent it from burning or sticking to the bottom of the kadai.
- Let the roasted flour cool slightly before adding the sugar. Adding sweetener to a very hot mixture can affect the texture.
- Adjust the flour consistency by adding some melted ghee if the mixture feels too dry to hold its shape.
- Shape the mixture while the roasted flour is warm but comfortable to handle.
