About Poha Recipe
Poha, also known as flattened rice. It is made with beaten rice flakes. This recipe requires basic ingredients to prepare. The flattened rice, when cooked with onion, tomatoes, spices, and herbs, makes a delicious poha recipe.
It originates from Maharashtra from a western region of India. It’s the most popular dish there and is now served across all Indian households. It is usually eaten as a breakfast, evening snacks, quick dinner, or school & office lunchboxes.
Poha is known by many alternative names like kanda poha, indori poha, and batata poha. But one thing made it common, i.e., its deliciousness. The process of making this poha recipe is the same whether it’s kanda poha or batata poha. The only difference is that we add potatoes to batata poha.
By profession, my mother is a teacher. For breakfast, my mother mostly prepares this poha recipe. So we enjoy it at least 2 times a week, which is normal. All my family members equally like it. Usually, I make it anytime when I feel hungry. I feel very light after eating it, and this quality made it my favorite.
This poha recipe is a healthier option for your breakfast menu. It is packed with protein and a good choice for lunchboxes. It can be eaten with yogurt, green chutney, or grated coconut.

How to make poha recipe
1.Take poha in a strainer or bowl and rinse it in clear water with your fingers two to three times. Then keep it aside and do not soak it in water for more than the rinsing time.

2. Then chop the onion, tomatoes, green chili, and coriander leaves into small pieces.

3. Heat a pan, add peanuts on a medium flame, and fry them until it has a brown shade on the outside.

4. When the peanuts have a brown shade outside, transfer them to a bowl.

5. Now, take the same pan, add 1 tbsp mustard oil with mustard and cumin seeds on medium heat. Let them sizzle for a few seconds.

6. Add chopped onions and allow them to roast until it has a golden texture outside.

7. When the onion has a golden texture, add chopped tomatoes. Now allow them to soften; it takes 3 to 4 minutes on medium heat.

8. When the tomatoes are softened properly then add turmeric and salt.

9. After that add soaked poha, raisins, peanuts, and green chili.

10. Mix all the ingredients well and garnish with chopped coriander leaves. Cook it for 3-4 minutes on medium flame.

11. Now turn off the flame and squeeze lemon juice on it.

12. Again, mix well. The poha is ready to serve.

Serve the poha hot or warm as you like with yogurt, green chutney, or grated coconut. You can serve it with tea, which also tastes best.
Tips
- When you rinse the poha, drain the excess water and set it aside immediately. Do not soak it in for more than the rinsing time, or else your poha would be mushy and sticky.
- Always use medium-thick flattened rice.
- If you don’t have a strainer or are using a bowl drain excess water at a time.
- Add lemon juice to the poha after it cooks, and you are ready to eat. If you add lemon juice while cooking, your poha will have a sour taste.

- 1 cup Poha ( rice flakes)

- 2 green chili, finely chopped
- 1 tbsp coriander leaves, finely chopped
- ½ tsp salt or as per your taste
- ¼ tsp turmeric powder
- ⅓ tsp mustard seeds
- ⅓ tsp cumin seeds
- 1 tbsp mustard oil
- 1 tbsp raisins
- 1 tbsp peanuts (ground nuts)
- 1 tsp lemon juice
