Cuisine Indian
- 2 cup Poha ( rice flakes)
- 1 medium onion, finely chopped
- 1 medium tomato, finely chopped
- 1 green chili, finely chopped
- 1 tbsp coriander leaves, finely chopped
- ½ tsp salt or as per your taste
- ¼ tsp turmeric
- 2 tbsp oil
- ⅓ tsp mustard seeds
- 1½ tbsp raisins
- 1½ tbsp peanuts (ground nuts)
- 1 tsp lemon juice
First, take poha in a strainer or a bowl and rinse them in water with your fingers two to three times. Keep it aside for soak.
Chop the onion, tomato, green chili and coriander leaves into small pieces.
Heat a pan add peanuts on a medium and wait until it has brown shade outside.
Then on the same add oil and mustard seeds and heat them until they start to splutter.
Add chopped onion and allow them to roast until it has a golden shade.
Add chopped tomato, salt and turmeric. Then the pan is covered with a steamer for 2 to 3 minutes on a low flame so that the tomatoes parch properly.
After that add soaked rice flakes, raisins, peanuts, and coriander leaves. Mix all these ingredients well and cook for 3 to 4 minutes.
Mix well. Now the poha is ready squeeze a lemon on it and serve it hot or warm as you like.
- When you rinse the poha for 2 to 3 times drain excess water and set it aside immediately. Do not soak it in water for more than a rinsing time or else your poha would be mushy and sticky.
- Use always medium thick flattened rice
- If you don't have a strainer and use a bowl drain all excess water at a time.
- When you add lemon juice to poha add it when it cooks and you are ready to eat unless your poha has a sour taste.
Serving suggestion:
- Serve the poha with toppings of lemon, green chutney, or grated coconut.
- You can serve it with tea which also tastes best.
