About the sattu drink

Sattu is a highly nutritious flour made with whole black chickpeas and roasted chickpeas. It is prepared as a fine powder, which is high in nutrients: iron, protein, and fibre. Known for its cooling effects on the body, it also helps in digestion. If you don’t have sattu, you can make it at home by grinding chickpeas in a grinder into fine powder, which is also fresh & handmade.

The sattu is used in many recipes, such as litti (stuffed dough balls), paratha, chilla (pancake), cutlets, porridge, and ladoo. All of them are healthy recipes to try if you are a big fan of sattu. Today I’m sharing a sweet sattu drink recipe or sattu sharbat, with you because I like the mostly rather salty version. Salty sattu is also easy to prepare by mixing chickpea flour, water, salt, green chilli, mint leaves, and lemon juice together. The salt version is ready.

Usually, this sattu drink is famous in Bihar, especially as a salty drink, but also enjoyed in the North Indian states too. Not heavy ingredients, simply put chickpea flour, sugar, water and salt in a mixing bowl, and the sweet sattu drink recipe is ready. I also didn’t know about this recipe before my trial. When I give it a try, I genuinely feel it’s a very cooling drink and delicious too.

Ingredients

Sattu- Use fresh sattu (chickpea flour) in this recipe. If you want to make it yourself, grind roasted chickpeas without skin into a fine powder, then use it in this.

Sugar- I used regular white sugar, but brown sugar and jaggery work well too. If you are a health conscious, then swap all these sweeteners with honey.

Black salt- Use a pinch of it to add more flavour to the drink.

Water- Use chilled or normal water; both work well. If using normal, later add ice cubes before serving.
