About Turmeric Milk

Turmeric milk, also known as Golden Milk, and in Hindi, its meaning (Turmeric=Haldi and Milk=Doodh). It refers to a drink that is prepared mainly with three ingredients: milk, turmeric, and sugar, which I have been drinking since childhood. Other spices like black pepper, ginger, cardamom powder, and cinnamon stick are added to make it more flavorful and healthier.

It’s an ancient drink that dates back several years, and now it has spread globally from India. Our nani and dadi tell all of us the story that we have heard from childhood reasons to drink this turmeric milk and how it benefits us. I also grew up drinking this milk. Currently, I am drinking it daily before bed because of winter.

It’s also the certified drink from Ayurveda that says it balances three doshas, vata, pita, and kafa which are present in our body. Related symptoms include cold, cough, congestion, ache, and many more. All are cured with this magical drink. Even if you are not feeling well, you can try this. This helps to boost your mood and also increases your immune system power.

It’s very simple to prepare, and you can easily make this daily. I don’t like it with other spices, but you can try it, which I will mention below.

How to make turmeric milk

1.Take one cup of milk in a pan and boil it. I used the raw milk, so first I’m boiling it.

2. When it comes to a boil, add 1/4 tsp of turmeric powder and 1/8 tsp of black pepper powder.

3. Mix them well in milk and turn off the flame.

4. I add 2 tsp of jaggery to it. I add it after turning off the flame because of jaggery.

5. Mix well, and the golden milk is ready.

Tips

  • Milk- I used homemade buffalo milk. You can use cow milk or any store-bought milk.
  • Turmeric- I used turmeric powder because I haven’t found the turmeric root anywhere. So if you find fresh root, use it; that gives a better taste.
  • Spices- I used black pepper powder, but if you want the healthier milk, then add ginger, clove, cardamom, and cinnamon. If you drink it daily, only turmeric powder and black pepper are enough.
  • Sweetner- I like to drink jaggery milk. You can use white sugar, brown sugar, or honey, whichever you like most. If you add jaggery, always add it after turning off the flame. If you add it before, the milk will curdle.
